motherhood.

I'm sure you could google a million blogs about Motherhood and tips on how to do things. This is just my experience... so far. I have a 2 year old son. He was born on September the 2nd, 2014. I once read a quote that said, "The moment a child is born, a mother is born also." In my case, that couldn't be more true. I've had my fair share of caring for my nieces and nephews since birth. It was easy, because I always knew I could hand them right back to their parents when I was tired and wanted to go out or do other things.

The first time I found out I was pregnant I was honestly, devastated. I held back tears upon discovering I was already 2 months. I was scared to tell my mom of this news because we had just discussed goals I wanted to accomplish. Plus, her traditional beliefs are strong in marriage first then comes baby. (thats for another post) I had this pretty rad job I was going after and was going to go back to school. My baby daddy at the time was waaaay more ecstatic than I was. He was so ready to have a kid LOL. Of course, me being older (by a year) I was thinking of costs and how we were going to raise a baby living in separate households. My parents were strict about being married first before living together. Looking back now I was over-thinking everything... as usual. We were in pretty good hands though, which was a huge blessing for our first and unexpected pregnancy.

I enjoyed being pregnant. There were days I felt amazing and other days where I couldn't get out of bed. I was lucky to have had my morning sickness at night, right before I slept. Some nights I could sleep through it and other nights I would be up feeling like death. The worst things about my pregnancy was having nausea and the constant urge to always pee in the middle of the night. I don't miss that part one bit haha. But overall it was an enjoyable experience. The first time I felt my son move, was the weirdest sensation I have ever felt. I can only compare to, if you were to swallow an eel and it was still alive inside you. Yeah not the most pleasant of comparisons but I got use to it. In fact, I looked forward to all the little kicks and flutters.

Even though I really missed laying on my stomach, I miss my growing belly even more. Hopefully that doesn't sound weird. But I was in love with my belly because it held my whole world in it. I started to care about how I would sit, how I would sleep. Taking care that it was always in the best position. I got more active by walking every night. And even started watching what I ate, sort of. Did everything I could to ensure my baby would arrive in good health. Every little thing I did was worth it, the day he was born.

I'm going to skip all the hospital stuff cause, girl... it gets lengthy. Although I do want to say one thing, by far of all the things I have ever held in my hands the absolute best is my baby. (I know, CHEESE!) Flash forward to life after birth. It was pretty easy falling in tune to my son's sleeping schedule. I never felt that I was deprived of sleep. My boyfriend (now husband) and I took turns doing feedings, diapers, baths. I had to show him and teach him a few things but he listened and learned so well that I only had teach him once. We even learned early on to put our son on a sleeping routine. Which was the MOST helpful thing because once he got down sleeping and waking at certain times, we were able to plan our whole day around it. And it worked that way all the way up until he turned 1.

The only hard part about life after birth, was stepping outside of mommy mode. Once my baby came, I was ALL about my baby. I forgot to take care of myself too. I mean I would shower and such but I never really gave myself time for 'me.' Pregnancy really changes you and how you feel about yourself, At least it did for me. Now I fully understand why a lot of women get the baby blues. But of course that is a whole post in itself lol.

Right now, life as Ken's mom is the most rewarding gift ever. I started working right after my son turned 1, and it made me feel like myself again. Even though I missed my boy, I know providing the best things for him would require both of his parents to have jobs. And I'm so grateful I come from a tight-knit family where everyone is gladly willing to help us. In that time my son got to know his grandparents better and developed a relationship I have always wished for with my grandparents. Especially with his grandpa. Which is another post for sure. (the many post ideas I have tho lol)

That worked out for awhile until my job got slow and I could stay home with my baby. Which is where we are at right now. As much as I hate not having that extra income, I swear God's timing is impeccable. I now realize how important it is for me to be home with my son. I strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I also believe without a doubt that children learn the best from their parents, especially their mother's. And here's why, as mothers we (most of us) realize whether it was in the beginning of our pregnancies or after, that we are going to spend the rest of our lives doing things to make our kids happy. I understand more so now than ever why my mother gives so endlessly. Only a mother can teach her kids how to love, when she needs to be comforted. How to be strong, even when she feels weak. Understand how you feel, even when you don't speak. I have so much more things to write but I need a break and I think you do too if you've read all the way up to this point. LOL!

But I am in love with life and the two people who make it worth it's while. The only thing I want for Christmas is my family to be happy and carefree. To be in the best of health and to continue to love like no tomorrow!
